Spending New Year's Eve in Newcastle

Posted on December 18, 2018

Newcastle is a fantastic place to celebrate your New Year’s Eve. There are many different options to suit all tastes and budgets and welcome 2019 in with style.

For a red carpet event consider Tyneside Cinema’s annual New Year’s Eve party. As the oldest independent cinema in Newcastle, they are perfectly placed to throw a sophisticated soirĂ©e, this year with an Oscars theme. The perfect excuse to don your finest clothes and enjoy the sparkle and glitz of a Hollywood party.

Fireworks

New Year is all about the fireworks for some revellers, and if that’s the case Newcastle has a couple of great options. For an early-evening family-friendly option, look at the Newcastle Civic Centre firework display. Alternatively, for an impressive show over the river Tyne as the clock strikes twelve, head for the Quayside New Year’s Eve Midnight fireworks. This event is free, and there are plenty of great bars or restaurants on the Quayside to enjoy before the big show. For both of these displays, remember to wrap up warm.

Food and Drink

If enjoying food and drink is the best way for you to celebrate, then there are many options in and around Newcastle to cater for every taste. In addition to chain restaurants, you may wish to consider some of the independent venues, such as House of Tides for an indulgent menu or River Beat for sharing tapas-style Asian dishes to enjoy whilst overlooking the River Tyne. It is advisable to book ahead and check what menus are on offer for this popular night of the year.

Alternatively, a relatively quiet evening may suit. Check out what is on offer at any local pubs or restaurants, as many will stay open later for New Year’s Eve, and you could always welcome in 2019 from your own flat (such as those provided by Nest) with a glass of champagne.
